A 1914 hilltop "Mountain Palace" perched 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard, built by the Bernheimer brothers to house a collection of Asian treasures — now one of L.A.'s most theatrical dining destinations. Yamashiro is all spectacle: pagodas, koi ponds, a garden courtyard, and 270-degree views of the city glittering below. The menu runs Japanese and Asian-influenced California — sukiyaki, soba, sushi, specialty rolls — but a century in, the view and the setting have always been the headliner. Come at sunset, order a cocktail, and let the hilltop do the rest.
