Wes Avila — the Guerrilla Tacos founder who turned a downtown street cart into one of L.A.'s most acclaimed Mexican kitchens — channels the Yucatán at Ka'Teen, set in a lush, jungly garden patio behind the Tommie hotel that feels far more Tulum than Hollywood. The menu runs coastal and bold: ceviches, aguachile, sweet-shrimp tacos, whole roasted fish, lamb-neck barbacoa, all over handmade tortillas and mezcal cocktails. It's a scene — a dressy date-night, girls'-night crowd — but Avila's cooking is the real thing beneath the ambiance. Come for the patio; stay for the barbacoa.
