From the Editor

Steven Kay (Cornell SHA '94, also behind Mel's Burger Bar) runs & Son Steakeasy out of a 190-year-old Greenwich Village townhouse — USDA Prime cuts sous vide then cast-iron-seared to medium-rare and finished with a house Béarnaise, the technique Kay developed himself. Up a red staircase behind a secret door sits Father's Study, a 24-seat hidden cocktail lounge styled as a 1920s-reimagined-at-100 speakeasy — dim, intimate, walled in old books and bottles, with its own craft cocktail menu, that operates as the steakhouse's upstairs second room rather than a sister concept. Resy named & Son to its 2025 New York's Top Steakhouses list; with the Upper East Side sibling closed in February 2026, the Greenwich Village townhouse is now the sole location. For a steakhouse-with-embedded-speakeasy where the 1830s building, the sous vide technique, and the upstairs hidden bar are three editorial hooks rather than one.
